Apple Thoughts and iPhone Struggles

So, from August 15th to September 15th, I have been on vacation doing absolutely nothing. It is pretty awesome how I don’t have to get up for work at 6am – so I can stay up late watching the Sox pound the Yankees, and write this blog. The thing is that it gets a bit boring during the day when I am not outplaying tennis. Good for me is that I get to watch the U.S Open Tennis Tournament in Flushing Meadows, NY all during the day. I will actually be attending this tournament this weekend, so I am pretty excited about that.
My obession with tennis and the open leads me to be connected with the tournament where-ever I go.No problem, you have the iPhone right? Wrong. The iPhone has been in my trash bin for 2 days now, as I really can’t go on with these 3G troubles. It will work fine for a couple of days then bite the bed every so often. I have to restart time, and time again to get the internet to view web pages. It will literally only load 1 website – Google.com, the only website that is like built for the iPhone, go figure. It’s just really just pathetic, and I can’t stand/wait until 2.1 comes out. Rumor has it that will be 9/9 that they will announce the 2.1 along with other slew of updates.
I was reading a great article - that I believe I references in the last post – about switching from a PC to Mac. The author hits a great point here about the fact is that mac’s are just supposed to work, so why are they trying to sweep the iPhone 3G problems under the rug? Sure – you’re dealing with two providers here, both AT&T and Apple; but there wasn’t a big uproar like this from the first iPhone. I mean, give me a break – fix the issue, if you know about it. Sure Microsoft may take 6 years to introduce a new operating system, but at least they see where they fucked up and put in patches as needed. Apple has just put out products and updates them at their discrestion. SMS sucks, the connectivity sucks, Apps crash don’t wait till September to make a huge “WWDC” release of it, just give it to us when it’s ready. I mean, it’s on Beta 4 now. Please just fix my iPhone.
The trip to NYC via Greyhound

So here I am blogging on the Greyhound bus from Boston to NYC. I’ll give updates as I travel through this awful service.

Well the bus came about 15 min late. I have taken this bus before when I went to school in NY so this was expected. The good thing is that I got my own seat. Getting on the bus quick then pretending to fall asleep is the method to my madness. Hopefully this will be a quick trip.

So now we are just getting into Hartford, CT which is a hour trip from where I started from. Half way through our trip I should be in lower CT by now. The issue was the back at I84 the line to get through the toll streched back to the pike. Now to my surprise, the driver just took I84 west through hartford instead of taking 91 which will more than likely cause more delay.

So now we took 84 to 694 which to my surprise wasn’t a bad move. I thought we would run into traffic in the “burys” but it worked out well. We are still about 30 min behind schedule not taking traffic into effect. Usually it takes about 30 min to get from 50th to 42nd. The driver is like the Jeff Burton of Greyhound, which awesome. It took me a while to get a name for the NASCAR referrence but whatever.

So we finally showed up at Port Authority at 715 about 45 min late. I have to give the driver props though for taking back and side streets to get out of traffic. If I had ben sitting next to someone it would have sucked worse than the Miami dolphins on sunday.
Conclusion
The Greyhound bus is the third best way to travel – but if you need to go right into the city it falls right behind the train. I suggest that you take the cheaper bus like the Bolt Bus as the AT&T signal was horrible in Western mass. I had to restart my phone 3 times to get a gps signal. The problems for Apple and AT&T. On a side note I got a text from them telling me to install 2.0.2. Guess what AT&T? I already did and see my post below about how it worked out.
Vacation!

Hey guys, so it’s been a while since I’ve wrote in this blog. I can’t say I’ve been busy, but honestly I’ve had no inspiration to write. But now, I’m back with a vengeance. So the iPhone has been going great – and with the introduction of 2.0.2 patch, SMS typing is much faster and I get more bars in more places (sound familiar). I feel that it is just a hoax; the bars appear there but no service is better.
Last night I was a in Subway™ trying to show my friend a funny anti-piracy ad on YouTube, and it timed out while searching. According to the iPhone i had full bars of 3G service. Improved, I think not. I am really looking forward to the 2.1 release which is said to be out in September sometime. I’m also interested to test the service in NYC as I will be visitng my girlfriend this weekend.
Just a quick note about an iPhone App Wishlist – I love getting my news on the go. Going to CNN or ESPN.com on my iPhone doesn’t really cut it for me. The AP Mobile News App is an awesome application – as it shows the story and video, if there is one. The problem is – all sports clips are just shown in still frame images. I wish ESPN would create an app that enables them to watch clips of sports or espn top 10 plays. I would even pay for that app. Heck, that is why I paid for the MLB at Bat application.
So, now on to the meat of the post – my vacaction. So I have offical ended my internship job and I am currently on vacation until the middle of September when I start my first full time after completing my master degree. I”m very anxious because I’ve been sitting on this job since last November, and I’m just ready – at this point – to get started. I’ll be working there for a week , then traveling down to Atlanta, GA for a week for training.Should be excited and I hope to be traveling more, as I have urge to see the rest of the world that I have not yet experienced.
